I've had this TV for about 5 months, and I've gotta say that its amazing! I have my PS3 hooked up to it and Bluray movies and games look incredibly crisp and clear. For a budget TV, this thing has a fantastic picture and some great features. Calibrating the colors took a little bit of effort but once out of the way the thing is fantastic. The sound is great too, but I'm no audiophile. Sounds good to me, though.

Reviewer: Twub,
After doing a lot of research we decided to go with Vizio rather than one of the typical name brands. Also side by side viewing comparison helped clinch the deal. It's a great TV, quality picture & sound at a reasonable price. With what it cost to go to the movies now days it has been worth the cost of the flat screen TV to have a quality movie viewing experience at home. We have been so impressed with this TV that we ended up purchasing a 37" Vizio for the bedroom. While originally looking at flat screen TVs we weren't sure if we wanted to go with plasma or LCD. The plasma TVs have a shiny screen; so there would be reflections from every window & light source reflecting off the shiny plasma screen. I was a bit apprehensive about the matt screen of the LCD. Yes you get deeper blacks with plasma, but in the end we made the right choice going with the LCD since we didn't want to contend with reflections bouncing off the screen. Vizio makes a nice quality product at a good price.

user_comment V VIZIO VU42LF - 42 LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV HARD TO BEAT FOR THE PRICE!

Reviewer: ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b, TRI STATE AREA
This is the second of three Vizio TV's I have purchased in the past four years and I must say these TV's are hard to beat for the price! It's hard to knock the easy to use controls and excellent picture on a TV that beats out many competitors TV's prices by at least a third of the cost.

The TV also has excellent sound from the mounted speakers which on many other brands were far inferior. I own four LCD TVs three of them are made by Vizio and they are certainly worth looking into especially when you're on a budget. I have read some reviews about the TV's breaking down and I can only tell you from my own experience, that all three of my Vizios have performed above expectations without any break downs what so ever.

Every manufacturer is going to have defective sets and most warrantees are the same regardless of who makes them. If you're on a budget (and who isn't these days?) look into Vizio. I have a new 240hz Vizio set that is one of the best pictures I've ever seen.

I would like everyone to know that I purchased two Visio TV's and 14 months after the purchase, my 42" TV went out., ie the power supply burned up. I called Visio and after a half hour of automated voice prompts, I was finally able to talk to a human. I explained my dilemma and was told that there was nothing they could do for me, as the warranty was expired. I advised that I didn't feel the power supply should have burned up in 14 months and he advised that he was sorry, the warranty was for 12 months and he would not honor anything after that date. So I am asking everyone to look at this information as a warning not to purchase an inferior product.

With new High Definition technology and Blu-ray about to replace DVD’s, it’s about time you get rid of that old tube TV you got back in 1990, and upgrade to an HDTV. When going from a big bulky tube TV to a nice slim flat screen HDTV, there are a couple things you need to know to make sure you pick out the best one. Picking out the wrong HDTV can not only be bad for you home, but your wallet too. Here are some “need to know tips” when buying your first HDTV. LCD, Plasma or DLP? That is right! There are 3 different types of HDTV on the market right now. Which one you choose is completely up to you, but picking the wrong one can make you want to run right back to that big box you used to call a TV. So lets go over the pros and cons of each type. DLP (Digital Light Processing)If you are looking for the biggest TV possibly then DLP is what you’re looking for. DLP’s are usually over 50 inches and run all the way up to 73 inches. They don’t hurt your pockets either, a 61-inch LED backlit only runs about $1900. It is an unwritten rule that if your looking for a set over 50 inches you go with DLP. They have great blacks, so bad contrast is not a problem. If you pick up an LED-backlit model, they are better on color accuracy and have a longer life span then a light-bulb-based DLP. Now don’t get me wrong, these TVs are not perfect. The biggest thing to think about when buying a DLP is placement. With DLP the viewing angle must be spot on. If you are sitting directly in front of the TV, the picture can’t be beat. If you are sitting in your favorite recliner off to the side or your kids are sitting on the floor you won’t be able to see anything. So if you buy a DLP you need to think about where it is going to be placed. Furthermore DLP TVs can be lighter then a plasmas or LCDs, they are bulkier and will not work with wall mounts. So mounting a DLP on your wall is out of the question. PlasmaThe major reason to think Plasma is that it beats any overpriced LCD in blacks, blur-free motion, and contrast. Plasma can also be found in any size you can find an LCD, usually between 32-50 inches. Plasma HDTV’s have quickly become the most popular type of HDTV. Old issues of burn-in and short life span are no longer a problem. Newer plasmas have a life span of about 60,000 hours and have new technology to prevent burn in. A bad thing about Plasma is that they use a crazy amount of energy. They use about twice the amount of power that an LCD would. They are also a tad bit heavier and a little more expensive then a LCD. When buying a Plasma TV you really have to think about how much your willing to spend for a TV and keep in mind your electric bill. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)If you are looking for a HDTV that is 42 inches or smaller, then LCD is your default choice. They are a lot lighter and thinner then any other HDTV made today. They are also much cheaper and use less power, but remember you get what you pay for. If you have a very brightly lit living room, then LCD is your best bet. They tend to be the brightest. An LED-backlit LCD can give you almost Plasma like picture but are way over priced. LCD can’t deliver on blacks or contrast like a Plasma HDTV can. When you are looking for an LCD be sure to check for response time. 6ms is as low as you would want to go and unfortunately that is what most LCD response times are. You want and try to look for a 4ms; it will be a little pricier but would help with motion blur. 720p vs. 1080p Here’s the thing when it comes to 720p or 1080p. Picking between the two all depends on how big the HDTV is, and how far away you plan on sitting. If you are going to buy an HDTV 40 inches or under, you most likely can’t tell the difference. Anything bigger then 40 inches you have to be thinking of how far away you will be viewing your TV. If you picked up a 42” 1080p you should be sitting six feet away for the HDTV, seven feet for a 50” 1080p set. If you plan on having the HDTV further away then that I would think about picking up a 720p HDTV at a cheaper price. Extras Now that you have you an HDTV picked out; there are a couple more things to take into consideration. HDMI cables are a must! An HDMI cable brings that high definition signal to your TV and can greatly cut down the amount of wires you have tucked away behind your TV. If you buy your HDTV at a Best Buy or Wal-Mart they are going to offer you a warranty. Don’t bother! Plasmas and LCDs have a low risk of breaking. Most of the time, things that do go wrong can be fixed under the manufacture’s warranty. Stand or wall mount? If you want to take the easy, but more expensive route then grab a nice stand. If you go for the wall mount you’ll need to be careful. Weight plays a big part in this. With mounting to a wall, you have to bolt into wall studs. If these studs don’t hold it could result in a television tragedy. If the studs do hold then the only concern is finding a place to hide all the wires hanging from the TV. I recommend the stand; it’s safer and easer. Often overlooked is transportation. If you pick up your new HDTV form a department store, remember that the box your TV comes in is much larger then the TV itself. So seek a friend or relative with a truck or van if necessary.

Finally as technologically advanced as these televisions are, no matter what model you choose, the display will only look as nice as what is fed into it. There is a reason that all of the stores you will shop in will have HDTV’s running a satellite feed, the picture is just flat better quality than anything a filtered cable feed would provide. Also, if you have just invested in an HDTV, my guess is that you are going to want the most HD programming you can get, Dish Network is the industry leader with over 140-channels and aggressive promotions that will save you some money.

Plasma TV or LCD – Which Should You Choose?

When it comes to high quality flat screen TVs, there are a number of choices available these days and the technology is constantly improving. However, as each competing TV screen technology matures and improves, the differences between them become more difficult to detect. And so it is with the comparison between LCD and plasma TVs.

The big advantages of both kinds of TV monitors is that they are very thin, only a few inches thick. Because of that you can choose to either place them on a stand, as you have with televisions you have owned in the past, or mount them to the wall instead. They both also produce stunningly beautiful visual displays, especially when coupled with high definition television programming. But there are some subtle differences that you will want to be aware of though.

Plasma TVs have been in use for many years and they use inert gases that are illuminated to display colors on individual pixels on the screen. Their best feature is the high contrast image that they reproduce. The colors are extremely vivid and sharp and this is mostly due to the fact that plasma TVs are able to exhibit true saturated blacks, whereas other monitors, LCDs included, usually have some compromise in how much true black they display.

Plasma screens are also easily viewed from almost any angle and so if you have a wide room with seating that extends out at an angle from the front of the television set, you may want to consider this advantage, although recently many LCD TVs have been steadily improving in their accepted viewing angle.

One area that plasma TVs have historically had a disadvantage is in the amount of electricity needed to power them and how hot they run. It can cost more to run a plasma TV if you use it very regularly, and it can generate quite a bit of heat inside, enough to warrant most manufacturers making use of a fan to cool them down as they run. This is not a noticeable problem unless the fan makes noise that can be distracting. So be sure to actually view a plasma TV before buying that particular model and see if the fan noise is a problem.

Another quirk of plasma TVs is that they can be susceptible to screen burn-in, which happens when one image is left on the screen for a very long time and it then becomes “burned into” the screen so that you can still faintly see it even when another image is displayed. This can happen on some TV channels that display an image that stays in a certain part of the screen for a long time, and if you play video games, there may also be a possibility that some games can cause this problem. So ask yourself before buying how you intend to use the TV, and if you happen to view programming that may have static screen images a lot of the time, it may be wise to choose an LCD screen as it does not suffer from this problem.

LCD TVs may not produce deep contrasty images like plasma monitors do, but the colors are still very pleasing and they can also be a better choice for brightly lit rooms since their display is not as susceptible to ambient light influences. However, they can tend to get more pricey than plasma TVs once you go above the 40 inch screen size.

All in all though, either type of TV screen technology will do a great job for you. The best recommendation is before you buy, visit a local electronics retailer and view representatives from plasma screens and LCDs. Bring along your own movie that you are familiar with and look for the differences. Then choose the one that makes the most sense to you. There is no need to buy from the store as you can often save lots of money by making your purchase online instead, but by doing your homework you can make a more informed buying decision.
